A Storysack is a fun literacy activity
that children and adults share together.
What is a Storysack?
A Storysack
includes a good childrens book and lots of activities to bring reading to
life. It is a fun way for children and adults to read together. Storysacks are
not bought from stores; they are made by the community.
What goes
into a Storysack?
- A good
quality storybook;
- Props,
scenery and characters to bring the story to life;
- A
non-fiction book linked to the story;
- Reading
tips and activity ideas for parents;
- Word or
number games based on the story; and
- An audio
tape of the story.

Where are Storysacks Used?
Storysacks
are a great way to support literacy. They can be made and used at home or in
libraries, schools, daycares, family resource centres, literacy programs,
hospitals, prisons, churches or volunteer organizations ... anywhere that
children and adults are together!

Who Makes Storysacks?
People of all
ages and skills make Storysacks. Everyone can get involved seniors,
students, craft groups and parents. Volunteers work in groups of six or eight.
People who sew, knit, draw, paint, colour or do woodworking love to help.
Storysacks are a fun way to get involved in literacy.
